The Ouija Board
The Ouija board is probably one of the most famous physical representations of psychic activity, psychic powers and paranormal activity. Much has been written about the Ouija board that is both good and bad so what is the real truth behind it? How can any single object, paranormal or not, be so loved and so hated as the simple Ouija board?
While tarot cards certainly share an increased popularity these days, they were not always so popular or so common place. Likewise, tarot cards never really invited single, individual and untrained psychics to communicate so freely with the ethereal plane and those that may dwell there.
Just like the corporeal or “real” world, those that dwell in the ethereal realm or the “spirit world” are both good and bad … and just like here in the physical world, sometimes those that are bad can quickly make the leap to pure evil and that is where the Ouija board begins to see its reputation tarnished and its name feared among many would be psychics.
The precursor to the Ouija board in the US came around sometime in the mid 19th century or middle 1800s if you prefer. At the time, it was simply the planchette or center piece of the modern Ouija board and it had a pencil attached to the bottom so that it could write messages through the practice of automatic writing.
While the modern Ouija board may be more prone to abuse by unscrupulous people, it has been shown to be very good at communicating with those on the other side for people who do believe. While this may seem great to many would-be psychics, it brings around the old adage about people gaining knowledge without the prevailing wisdom or discipline required to control that power.
This meant that a great number of people have been drawn in to the Ouija board when their beliefs were confirmed and they actually saw that the Ouija board could be used as a viable means of communication with those on the other side. The problem was that without any training, evil spirits were often unknowingly invited in to people’s lives and the people were not always capable of successfully dealing with the results.
This has been what has caused the vast majority of controversy regarding the modern talking boards or Ouija boards. While these incidents may not be as common as some other social issues, there have been enough instances of concern regarding the Ouija board to bring about numerous complaints and investigations.
The government itself is very hesitant to step into matters of psychic ability and the paranormal including the simple “toy” Ouija board so these investigations have generally been very short-lived in nature. Nonetheless, the controversy surrounding the Ouija board does remain even to this day.
Even with the much famed tarot cards, there is no direct communication with the spirit world so the difficulties in turn are much less substantial. The tarot cards, when read incorrectly, simply reinforce the skeptics belief that none of this works and that the paranormal realm is no more real than anything else that they cannot see or understand.
The Ouija board however, is a very powerful tool but like any tool, you must know how to use it properly if you are going to be able to make it work for you without hurting yourself. When dealing with the paranormal and the Ouija board it is important to approach it with an open mind but take care so as not to leave your mind too open to anything that may happen along and want in.
